1911 $10 Indian Head Eagle
Did you know
Most coins have tiny ridges around the rim. This one has raised stars instead, one for each state. Two were added in 1912 when New Mexico and Arizona joined.
What's on it
Front: Liberty wearing a feathered war bonnet with LIBERTY on the band. Back: an eagle standing on a bundle of arrows and an olive branch.
When it was made
New in 1907, when the United States had 46 states. Still being made in 1933, the year the government called in gold coins and stopped making them.
The Philadelphia mint
America's first mint, opened 1792. Its coins carried no letter at all until a P appeared on wartime nickels in 1942.
