Did you know
It was meant to be a one-year coin for Washington's 200th birthday in 1932. It wore well, so it was kept, and it stayed on the quarter for 66 years.
What's on it
Washington faces left, copied from a bust the sculptor Houdon made from life in 1785. On the back, an eagle with wings spread.
When it was made
It reached banks on August 1, 1932, in the worst of the Great Depression. Silver quarters ran until 1964, when a silver shortage forced a new metal.
