What makes one worth more than melt
- 1916 is the key date, with a mintage of roughly 52,000: by far the scarcest year.
- The 1918/7-S overdate is the other real variety to check for. Type 1 (1916–early 1917, exposed breast) vs. Type 2 is simply which design you have, not a value claim by itself. Full Head strikes carry the real grade premium.
